On Tap this Week in Montco

Updated: Jul 20

This upcoming week, a regional planning group discusses a draft housing plan, Norristown Council holds its first public meeting since the Grants Pass court decision, and Norristown Police Chief Jacqueline Bailey-Davis holds open office hours Wednesday night.

  • On Monday at Collegeville Borough Hall beginning at 7 p.m., the Central Perkiomen Valley Regional Planning Commission will take public comment and discuss several matters, including the draft housing chapter of its comprehensive plan rewrite. Why this is important: The comp plan shapes land use, transportation, and other policies for municipalities, especially when it comes to managing growth and ensuring that all Montgomery County residents are part of the community.

  • Tuesday evening, Norristown Council meets at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall to introduce their new Municipal Administrator Leonard Lighter, according to the agenda. Lighter previously worked for the cities of Allentown and Chester. Why this is important: The administrator works with council members to enact their priorities and agenda. He/she is responsible for managing municipal department staff.  For the full council agenda, check here

  • Many advocates and organizations have been left wondering how local police departments will respond to encampments and people sleeping in public spaces in the wake of the Supreme Court decision more than two weeks ago. An opportunity to dialogue with Norristown Police Chief Bailey-Davis exists the first Wednesday of the month from 4-7 p.m., according to the NPD Facebook page. Citizens can visit the first floor police lobby at 235 E. Airy Street. The next eving is Aug. 7.
